The National Strategy of Regional Development, elaborated on the basis of the Regional Development Plans and the National Strategic Reference Framework 2007-2013 have identified tourism as a priority for regional development, given the existing tourism potential in all regions. This potential justify financial support to develop and strengthen domestic tourism by supporting the promotion of tourist products and activities of specific marketing, in the framework of the Regional Operational Programme 2007-2013, priority axis 5 "Sustainable development and tourism promotion", major field of intervention 3.3. -"Promoting tourism potential and creating the necessary infrastructure, in order to increase the attractiveness of Romania as a touristic destination."
Romania promotes a diversified touristic potential, harmonious and symmetrically, that allows throughout the year the viewing of the full range of forms of tourism. Privatisation of touristic sector has contributed to the achievement of investment to modernize tourism infrastructure and consequently to increase the quality and diversity of services offered. New tourist products and forms of tourism appear and develop such as rural tourism, agro tourism and adventure tourism, "wellness" balneo-climatic tourism as well as other types of niche tourism. Also business tourism develops in the context of the development of activities relating to the organisation of congresses, symposiums and exhibitions, diplomatic actions and meetings of Romania's accession to the European Union and NATO, the scientific and cultural-events business, internal and international.
